Recently there has been some confusion over what time the Small Lounge closes on nights that entertainment is in the Big Lounge. It was decided FIVE years ago that in order to get the crowd to support the Big Lounge that the Small Bar would close for 11pm. This would encourage our Members to SUPPORT the Big Lounge and the expensive entertainment that we put on for them, at thier request. If you dont like this rule then rather than stand in the Small Lounge and critisise The Officers would it not be better to put pen to paper and have this rule changed. We have tried many different groups recently in the Big Lounge but dont seem to be getting the support.

MENS DARTS 4/06

5th Jun 2010

No matter what sport you play the last match of the season is normally a drab encounter. Not always so. Last night The Saints entertained a stubborn Gers B team in the Fortress and they were looking to keep their good run going. The darts were moved into the main lounge because the darts room in the back bar resembled Ballylumford during the workers strike(plenty of people in but no lights working). In actual fact it was good foresight on the part of the Officers and Chairman to get our players used to the conditions for next weeks competition.Mandy was up first and decided to leave the milk bottles at home last night and it proved a wise decision as he showed his prowess to Caoimhe and easily won 2-1,The Quiet Man stayed at home yesterday afternoon(some people quipped he had stayed at home for most of the season) and that also proved a wise move as he showed glimpses of old hitting 177 along the way Saints 2-0 up.The Tank and The Graduate both found the range and had fine wins as well 4-0 up with 4 to play.Fizzy then got in the act to win quickly followed by the Master who recorded his 24 league win on the trot(surely this puts him in the Hall of Fame as our greatest player ever)to leave the Saints 6-0 up with 2 to play.Silky and Di Canio both got in the act to steamroll their opponents and send a message out that we will be ready to improve on third place next campaign.Alas it was all a little too late in the league and when we look back on the season we will be happy enough with the trophy that was won but like most sports its all about course and distance and staying power............Next week should be a great evening of darts when all of Larnes finest lock horns in the Fortress to win the last competition of the season. What odds The Master?????? thats where the smart money will be laid......

MENS DARTS 28/05

29th May 2010

The passports were checked and the short trip was made across the sea to Islandmagee. The bhoys were in good spirits as they set off and nothing but a big win would suffice. The Graduate was chosen to play the lead role and didnt let his team down hitting the ground running to win in 27 and 26 darts,Next up was The Quiet Man,you never know whether its the dart thrower or the plasterer who is going to turn up,thankfully it was the darts player last night and he recorded his first win in five.Mandy was up next sporting a new pair of shades and it looked like the milk bottles were bothering him,he managed to fall over the line in the first but found his range in the second,3-0 up and not leg dropped. The Tank also had a 19 darter and finished in style to make it 4-0 all legs intact.Fizzy had a few days off at the start of the week and he must have put his time to good use as he played his best game to date winning easily 5-0 and a whitewash was looming,Silkys form has returned since his little huff last week in the individuals also had a 20 darter and a 2-0 win.The Master was next and no-one was going to stop him recording his 23rd league win on the trot(pity his team mates werent as consistent)The Master had a 17 darter and a poor 24 darter(by his standards)to leave the Saints 7-0 up and all legs still intact. The Little General was left to leave the islanders all at sea and after some indifferent darts pulled the rabbit out of the hat and also won 2-0.It was a great result by the bhoys but as one of the builders quipped it was all too little too late..The only thing that bothers me is who told the builder that he was on the island and who woke him up on the way(he thought he was going to Ballylumford and was sleeping soundly before The Glynn....Allegedly.........

MENS DARTS 22/05

23rd May 2010

Fiday night saw the Saints have a night off so they decided to throw for the club individual trophy,a lot of reputations would be put on the line and weeping and wailing would duly follow.Questions were going to be asked and answered and only time would tell who would have the bragging rights for this year. The Master was bookies favourite before a dart was thrown but Mandy and The Little General along with The Graduate and Silky could perhaps put a spanner in the works of the greatest player ever to play for the Saints. As everyone knows this is an open draw and at the start you have to separate the wheat from the chaff and let the lesser players have a go.Remember last week Young Senior declared that he was unbeaten since February, well that record still stands as he played 5 and duly lost 5 even managing a defeat to J Lo,what does that say about this players street cred(nuttin)Tweet snr also had a 100% record of defeats never troubling his opponents at any time. The Semi final saw the young guns(The Graduate and Silky)drawn against the experienced (Master and Mandy)alas the semis went with form and that left The Master up against Mandy in the best of 7.The Bookies final was here and it was like a dual with daggers drawn. Each player had their own support and it soon turned into a tussle.Grit and determination could be seen in both players and hopefully the rest of the team will be inspired by the darts that were thrown.Mandy threw the best darts of the night and slayed The Master to win 4-2 on the night. It was a good nights craic for the throwers but at the end of the day when you look at it the most consistent throwers all year reached the semis..........nuff said

MENS DARTS 15/05

15th May 2010

The Web Master called into the Fortress last night to give a few words of encouragement to our team before they entertained the Footy Club, this fixture earlier in the season produced an 8-0 win for the Saints and as we were sitting pretty in 3rd place and the footy club were holding up the league another whitewash looked on.Bhoy oh Bhoy how things pan out in the real world, everytime this season that we have seen light at the end of the tunnel we always manage to produce a train wreck to put our lights out.First up was Silky and I don,t know if its because he was on first or not but he just couldn,t find the range against a player that he would normally dispatch easily,1-0 down, no whitewash but no problem, next up was the Quiet Man and he again threw darts that suggests that perhaps a pool career beckons next season,(swimming pool that is)2-0 down and not looking very good, the last time this team were 2-0 up Bill Bird was in short trousers,Mandy took a grip of the situation and restored a bit of pride to record another fine win,Di Canio was again talking away to his best friend(himself)and he levelled the match with 2x21 darts,The Master then produced his usual high standard and won easily in 19, and 20 darts,3-2 up now all we had to do was relax and see out the rest of the match and get a few more points as word filtered through that the Gers had drawn 4-4 with blue bars. The Graduate started off well winning the first game before taking his foot off the pedal and ending up loosing 2-1...3-3 with 2 to go.Fizzy threw his best game of the season when his man didnt show and that left the Tank to complete the match, try hard as he did to loose he finally got over the line 2-1,perhaps the wrong Billy Young was at the oiche because Senior took great delight in telling anyone who would listen that he is unbeaten since February(the fact that he hasn,t played since then didn,t seem to bother him)I could also use that logic to say I,m unbeaten this year myself as I don,t play darts.........talking of darts its our individuals next week so I will be keeping a close eye on results to confirm that some players seem to clod better when their opponents are team members whats the betting?????? watch this space......

MENS DARTS 8/05

9th May 2010

The Web Master was out and about on Friday night earning an honest dollar when he came upon a cavalcade of cars approaching him as he entered the Glynn,he thought it must be a Royal visitor but on meeting the cars he seen that it was St Comgalls dart team and supporters, yes supporters making their way to Whitehead. He smuggley said to himself with that amount of support it must be worth at least a couple of shoe ins against a team from the dark side.He couldnt have been more wrong,it turned out that some players left their jewels in Larne and proceeded to play like spare ones at a wedding.First up was The Quiet Man who continues to frustrate with some good scores and then some awful ones 1-0 down with The Tank up next(this mans a legend in his own mind)nuff said 2-0 down, next the Builder who has been up and down this year and he also left his A game at the Fortress 3-0 down and being blown away like an Icelandic volcano.Mandy was next and at least he took control early on and threw steady darts to record a win with a 19 dart checkout,Di Canio threw next and he had as much success as Peter Robinson at the elections, sunk again without trace.4-1 down and title hopes all at sea.The Graduate knuckled down with great aplomb and easily won to make it 4-2, a draw was the best we could hope for,The Master must have been wincing watching his troops fall like nine pins but like the super player he is it didnt affect his game and he should have had 2x12 dart checkouts but had to be content with a 16 and 18,last man at the oche to save the day was young Silky who showed that he has the clinkers no matter the size of the crowd(unlike others that I could mention)to win and so he did in 19 darts.A disappointing draw to The Saints who had aspirations of a league title disappear like J LO when asked to buy drink.....Well done to our faithful supporters who felt let down by some of our players, its easy to play darts when there is no one watching but when the bright stage lights go on the nuts get loosened..........

MENS DARTS 30/4

1st May 2010

After last weeks match the Saints were in a buoyant mood for the clash with K D Nicholls team, they knew that if they scored heavily and other results went their way a top two spot was clearly on.The draw was good in the Fortress as the Master set the target for all to follow he won in 20 and 18 darts hitting a 108 checkout on the way to get us off to the best possible start,The Graduate followed and quickly got into the groove peppering the T20s and looking every bit a class act finishing both games in 19 darts,2-0 Saints,Silky was on next and he kept the momentum going with some high scoring recording 20 and 23 darts to put the home team up 3-0 and KDs reeling on the ropes, team rotation seems to be working(does judge Busby agree? Fizzy had to borrow a set of darts as he didnt think he would be playing(due to his recent run of bad luck) left his at home with Sharon and then recorded a 2-1 win Mandy came back off the bench to win easily hitting a 19 darter as well,Di Canio ground out a result to keep his 100% record against teams from the dark side,6-0 up and the Builder on next,Big Jack didnt have to take the darts out of the scabbard as his opponent failed to show,7-0 up with the Tank left to complete the rout, the stick that went this bhoys way in the last couple of weeks seems to have worked in his favour as he easily dispatched his opponent with a 115 checkout and a 2-0 win.8-0 to the Saints and another 10 pointer to really put them back in the mix,2nd spot with 4 games to go and the other top teams to play each other could the championship be going to the Fortress??????

MENS DARTS 23/04

1st May 2010

Thank goodness that we had a break from the trials and tribulations of the league campaign last week.when footballers get jaded they head off to the sun(volcano permitting)and get some rays and re charge the batteries for the final onslaught on the league,we mere mortals enter the annual 3 a side competitions and duly spank a few bums on the way and win the tournament without loosing a set,by we I mean The Master,The Little General, and The Quiet Man.It was great to see another trophy sitting proudly behind the bar last week, well done to all.....This result or the match report two weeks ago must have sunk in to a few Maradonnas who replaced all the toys in the pram like good little bhoys and headed off to the Lumford for a 3rd V 5th league match.Silky was first up and knuckled down to show those watching that he can finish when called upon winning 2-1 after getting off to the worst possible start, next was The Graduate who despite having another Birthday during the week(he must nearly be as old as me now)let his darts do the talking and duly won 2-0,Fizzy was next up and as usual was pitted against their No 1 and he duly showed them why he,s our No 8,2-0 defeat, but still 2-1 up in sets,The Quiet Man once again brought his Z game to the oche and was duly dispatched 2-0 without a whimper,The Little General then showed his 3 a side partner the way to go and had 2x23 darters,3-2 Saints,The Tank also made a come back last night and conceded that if you throw crap darts week in week out you have to spend a little time being a judge(sitting on the bench)but thankfully he brought his A game last night and peppered the board with some great scores,4-2 Saints,Uncle Jack The Builder was up next and despite hitting 180 couldn,t maintain the kind of form needed and sunk like the Titanic without a trace 2-0,squeaky bum time now had arrived if the Saints were to record a win it was between Mandy or The Master to play the last, thank goodness Mandy was left with his little piece of chalk and abacus to keep score and it was left to The Master to once again show everyone who is the Daddy, under severe pressure kept his composure and hit 2x21 darters for the best win of the night.Mandy showed great composure on hearing that he was surplus to requirement last night by staying put and cheering his team on,perhaps others need to learn from this and join the great Solitude spirit................

What is it about being a member of St Comgalls club that makes everyone who plays for our team think that they are better players than everyone else especially the ones that get picked to play instead of them, everyone knows that you get out of sport exactly what you put in and if the only reason you turn up is to get to the various bust ups at the end of season then I think you need to look at joining face book to find a few new friends. The darts team have been fighting above their weight for a few years now and just because you look like a dart player doesnt mean you can throw darts. Instead of supporting the chosen ones we love to sit back and hope they come unstuck, last night was a perfect example of this we went 4-0 up against The No1 club and should have put them away but we again managed to grab defeat from the jaws of victory, some people seem to have other agendas and its easier to roll over and go home than fight and let teams know that when they meet the Saints we might not win but we will show some guts.Players have to do a bit of soul searching and start to practice and perform as one or do what other prima donnas have done in the past and go to the other clubs where i,m sure they will be made very welcome.......You know the old story about when you leave the room............. nuff said

MENS DARTS 26/03

28th Mar 2010

Apologies to everyone out there that looks forward to the dart results every week, but a technical hitch occurred and and the web master was under pressure.Never mind we are back now and normal viewing continues.Since last writing the Saints have taken a few good scalps and still find themselves in the trophy hunt,Friday past seen us entertaining the Gers A in a fixture that has been tricky enough for us in the past, nevertheless we went into this fixture believing we could get a result, the pack was shuffled and The Builder found himself on the team sheet much to the dismay of his brother-in-law,first up was silky and despite loosing the first rubber composed himself and took the next two games,Saints up and running,Di Canio always manages to pull the rabbits out when needed and had a great result against JMcCourt winning 2-0 with both legs in 22 darts,2-0 Saints home crowd very happy,Mandy was next and I dont know whether it was the bling or good darts but he was soundly beat in 17 and 19 darts 2-1 Saints,Gers then rolled out an old stager and The Graduate must have been on the look out for a few free taxis because he managed to loose both games in 100 darts,2-2,The Quiet Man was next and once again was slow out of the blocks and lost the first game before levelling the game at 1-1 with one to play, returning from the board he decided to show everyone his Michael Flattley tap dance routine, alas he fell off the taps into the sink and duly lost,3-2 down.Big Jack against all the odds showed the kind of darts he used to play 3-3 and game on.Enter The Master to show everyone who is No 1 the tons were flying from his steady arm but just didnt shine on his doubles, nevertheless he was a class above and won easily in 18 and 21 darts,4-3 Saints and the Gers not for the first time had to come from behind to steal a draw, dont know if The Tank knew that we had a 100% record this year in the Fortress or if he thought his uncle (steady Fizzy)should have been picked but he played like a pool player and I mean at the leisure centre to record another defeat(has he changed his name to Longmore?)4-4 and league aspirations over for another year...............

Mens Darts 26/02

28th Feb 2010

After last weeks match which should have went to the bhoys we entertained the birdie club at the Fortress to try and clip the wings of the high flying blue bars. Its never easy against the league leaders to record a win but the Quiet Man hit the ground running this week annoyed by the criticism
levelled at him in the last couple of weeks winning in 22 and 23 darts(i knew this bhoy would come good)Fizzy was up next and made his man scamper back to the birdie club 2-0 up and looking good even without the services of Mandy who is sunning himself with J Lo in Sligo.Di Canio has thrown better darts and lost but this week got the rub of the green he deserved to win 2-0, 3-0 Saints could they hold their nerve and record a victory? The Tank lost his way in the first game but showed great finesse to grind out a 2-1 win,4-0 Saints, with The Graduate up next to really pressurise the league leaders, the first game was a marathon but the Graduate sneaked it in 100 darts and you could see his opponents head dropping,he could smell blood and made no mistake in the next game winning in 18 darts hitting 180 on the way(thats my nephew)5-0 Saints and a tremendous result for our Bhoys,The Master was again in fine form easily dispatching C Maybin 2-0 with legs of 20 darts each game. The older half of the builders made his customary outing of the season but was as rusty as some of the nails they use and lost 2-0,Silky was up last and found it hard to motivate himself and he struggled hard to keep his good run intact but lost 2-0,but his result had no bearing on a win that blows the league wide open and its now eyes down up the Mill Brae next week to play the funny handshake club in a game we must win to keep the pressure on........questions this week, how much sun screen did Mandy rub on J Lo? will the younger half of the builders now look for a game?will birdies counting improve?and finally is the Quiet Man back to his best(no better man........

MENS DARTS 19/02

28th Feb 2010

The Saints made the short journey down town for a top of the table clash with the Lumford, after the draw was made The Saints were quietly confident of getting a result over a team that narrowly won at the Fortress earlier in the season. The Master(as befits a great player) took the No1 spot and after some fine scores proceeded to play like a mere mortal eventually loosing a leg that he should have won easily,he fared better in the second leg winning in 100 darts before he showed his class in the third when he almost had a 12 darter eventually getting over the line in 19 darts.1-0 Saints, next up was the Tank who played well but the golfer had too much in his locker and won 2-0 The Graduate showed a steely determination in winning the first leg against Mc Garry(was a shock on the cards)but alas when it mattered the luck fell to the player from the dark side,The Quiet Man is lost in the wilderness at the moment and he lost easily to fizzies bro-in-law,3-1 down The Little General was next up and we were looking for a result here but alas he played like a Z team player 4-1 down.Mandy was next to the oiche and he produced the goods to keep the Saints in the chase with his usual flair and steely determination 4-2 down two to go,Fizzy must wonder what he has done in a past life to deserve all the bad luck that he has with the draws(suppose you cant be lucky in love and darts)M Penny dispatched Fizzy in the penultimate game to leave the Saints 5-2 down and league aspirations in tatters, even though the tie was lost Silky played his little heart out and won 2-0 to leave the Saints well beaten on the night 5-3.Next week we are at home to the birdie men and they will be without their star player who lost his game upstairs in the Saints committee room, questions to be answered next week are will the quiet man ever win again? will Mandy survive a night in Sligo with J Lo? Will Fizzy get an easy opponent ever and finally will the Master be allowed to play next week or does he have more shopping to do now that the shops open late on Fridays?

MENS DARTS 12/2

14th Feb 2010

The Mens darts are now into the second leg of the league and The Saints were at home to The No1(B)Club,still reeling from the disappointment of last weeks 5 a sides and also with J LO,s stinging words fresh in their ears they were looking for at least a result similar if not better than when these teams last met when the Saints ran out easy winners with a 7-1 win.The Fortress eagerly awaited the first match and as usual Mandy didnt let the team down with some terrific darts to see us off to an early lead 1-0,Fizzy performed like a storm trooper winning the first game easily before he forgot the golden rule in any sport"if your opponent is down dont let him up" good job his mate Barkley was on hand to remind him of this and he won 2-1,The Master then showed everyone why he is our No1 hitting 180 and recording legs of 21 and 19(he is the Wayne Rooney of the dart league)Di Canio was next and he was up for the game after the mauling that the Saints took in Pool the night before he was in a determined mood and peppered the T20s to record a 13 dart leg great stuff, but alas he let the next one slip before he steadied himself with 180 and 22 darts in the 3rd leg to win 2-1,4-0 Saints and a white wash was on the cards, the young guns(The Graduate,Silky Wilkie, and The Tank) were on next and also showed fine form to let every one know that they have the A game when its required.A no show from The Quiet Man let in an old stager Billy(not so young)Young who also showed that like a fine wine he gets better with age and he stole the show winning 2-0 and getting the biggest cheer of the night.Next week will see if The Saints are championship material when the make the short trip to Lumford to play the 2nd place team, what a match is in store, will Fizzy get revenge over his church going brother in law?is Mandy over his Portadown trip? How many treble 20s will the Master hit?will the little General follow him?will The Quiet Man return?will not so young young get a start........all the answers next Sunday, like you I can hardly wait

MENS DARTS 29/01

31st Jan 2010

The second half of the season has now kicked off and the Saints travelled away to play Jays Rangers,we had already beaten this team 7-1 at the fortress and we were looking to continue in our rich vein of form with a comfortable win.The Quiet Man was the only player to loose last time out and he was up first looking for early revenge.Alas Busby hit all his doubles at the fortress when he was playing killer earlier.1-0 down.Di Canio always keeps his best darts for teams with Rangers in their names(which are most)hitting a 180 and recording a 17 darter(great stuff from the apprentice)1-1.Fizzy quietly went about his business with great aplomb to win 2-0 and put the Saints 2-1 up,Mandy then got in the act hitting a 20 darter to win 2-0, I think this "Red" is playing the best darts of his career. The Tanks good form also continues and he won easily to leave the Saints 4-1 up with Silky Wilky next to play, practise pays off and you can see the confidence in this buoy,5-1 Saints. The Master continued the rout with his usual style releasing the big guns when they were required 6-1 Saints with the Graduate to mop up the last game, alas he didnt get the result he wanted but nevertheless this was a good win and sets us up for the next league match in a fortnights time at home to the No 1 club(we already know who that team is)next week is the 5 a sides.Lastly I hope J Lo has recovered from his 40th birthday party held in the fortress with him and two babes(perhaps he should join face book, even he would get someone to be his friend.......

LADIES DARTS 26/01

31st Jan 2010

The Web Master forecast last week that it was possible for the Saints to beat United on their home patch this week and his prediction came true. The Ladies headed down town in a determined mood knowing that last time these two teams met they lost a game that they should have won,The Kite wasn,t too pleased when the Web Master hinted last week that a bye was not a win,she certainly put him on the back foot with a win that was akin to beating Maureen Flowers(Ladies World Champion in the 80s)she strutted around the board with a confident look that she was not going to be beaten and neither she was 1-0 Saints. This game had a significant bearing on the rest of the match with the Saints growing in confidence and United looking worried as their Star player was put to the sword.Pamela the Post got in the act inflicting a rare defeat on her opponent 2-0 Saints,The Saints were now in the driving seat and Maria sporting a new pair of Ugg boots showed A Vine a clean pair of heels winning in 26 darts.3-0 Saints,Anne (chippy)Shaw was next but lost narrowly in a game that was there for the taking,3-1.Next to the oche was Hawkeye and the Saints were confident that she would produce the goods, but alas her finishing let her down and we were now 3-2 up but on the ropes.Elaine was next up and she knew the importance of her match and she dug deep into the reserves and broke the hearts of United with some super darts parity restored 4-2 Saints now believed a win was on the cards,Sandra(buy a ticket)didnt let the side down winning easily 5-2 up with 3 to play,Joanne was next but wedding bells were on her mind more than doubles and she lost 5-3 up with 2 to play, first daughter now mother to the oche,The Aussie(not to next year)Marian played with style knowing the match result rested on her shoulders, and she didnt let the side down collecting the points for the Saints, last up was Sheena(the mascot)who finished off a great night to condemn United to their first defeat of the season, this result not only dents United,s title hopes a little bit but sends a message to other teams that they can be overcome...well done the Gals onwards and upwards...........

The Web Master just happened to be in The Fortress before our team set of to Antartica to play The Gers B and he was delighted to see everyone practising away on both boards hoping that J Lo would notice them and pick them for the match. The team at the minute picks itself after some great results recently with some 32 legs played and winning 31.The only flaw was The Quiet Man who after last week took himself off to a spiritual retreat in Lourdes to practise his doubles and hope to get two in a bed at the same time (dedication or what?)Our players at last have found a place colder than the Big Lounge and after some hot ones got down to the matters at hand.Mandy continued where he has left off this year with super darts including an 18 darter 1-0 Saints,The Quiet Man managed to get 3 in a bed for the maximum but his stamina let him down when it mattered and he hit 24,25 darters (average)Silkie Wilkie was next to put his opponent to the sword and so he did with panache what a season this young man is having.Once again Fizzy was cursing his luck as he was drawn against The Gers professional and even though he had a couple of chances at a double just couldnt cut the mustard.3-1 Saints. The Tank was now raring to go and was in a determined mood to avenge his Uncles defeat and so he did with great style beating the Taxi driver all ends up.Next up was Di Canio and you dont need to psyche The Little General up for these matches he remained focused all the way and kept his 100% record intact,The Master hit that many trebles that The Gers nearly had to turn the board round after the first leg,but alas his finishing was average but still he won 2-0......6-1 up with The Graduate left to take up the rear once again, after recording a maximum last week (that I forgot about) he also showed why he is one of J Lo,s first choices every week winning easily for a 7-1 win for The Saints,This result was even sweeter when word filtered through that other results went our way for a change which will make the next couple of weeks very interesting and probably entertaining........Our next game is away to Jays Rangers so lets remain focused and keep practising.............

LADIES DARTS 19/01/10

31st Jan 2010

This weeks darts match saw the return legs of all matches played last year, first up this season were the Islanders who travelled by land with a few players missing,it didnt take long for them to find their sea legs and won the first game with J Tuke beating Joanne, next up was(buy a ballot) Sandra who steadied the ship with some good darts to level the scores 1-1,The Kite won this fixture last year and word must have spread about her prowess(on the dart board of course)because no opponent was found to play her,I suppose some would say this is a home win but technically the jury is out on this one.The same can be said of Hawkeye who also had a easy evening,Gemma made a welcome return but was a bit rusty on the oiche and lost3-2 Ladies,it was then a nip and tuck match with us winning one then The Islanders winning one,Elaine won ,Chippy(Anne) lost,The Matron(Janette) had a good win and Postie also recorded a good win. Finally The Aussie(Marion) won to complete a tremendous win 7-3. Well done to the Ladies.Next week sees them travel to United who if my memory serves me right is the only team to beat us last year in a game that we should have won..Watch this space and remember like that other United mob they can be beaten........

MENS DARTS 15/1

17th Jan 2010

The men played host on Friday night to an experienced Islandmagee side.Nothing but an 8-0 win would suffice and the web master took time out of his busy schedule to take in this match he positioned himself that he was able to see all the darts that were thrown, all the Saints players showed they were up for the job when asked to the oiche,Fizzy starred and so did Silky,Mandy threw great darts also the Tank got in the act to keep 100% record going,Di Canio let the darts flow and the Master hit a 16 darter to ease everyones nerves, another whitewash was on the agenda, the Graduate also played his part with a 2-0 win, last up to complete the whitewash was the Quiet Man but perhaps he had one eye on Lourdes but he dropped a leg to stop the Saints recording a 100% win.Perhaps when he is at Lourdes he will dip not only his toes in the baths but also his darts so that he gets the range for next weeks match away to Gers B..........

24th Jan 2010

Hello everyone happy new year and apologies for not updating the web site earlier but the boss was away and the web master was on a jolly. The Gals were at home to the Lumford and struggled after all the celebrations to a draw.Maria looked home and hosed hitting some good scores but alas double trouble cost her the match,Saints down 1-0,Marion was up next and threw great darts and was looking for another bull finish but her dart just fell short of the target but she gathered herself and hit the double to draw level 1-1.Next up was Hawkeye and despite hitting some good scores lost only her second game of the year,2-1 down,Sandra J also was suffering from too much turkey and she lost her first game of the new year 3-1 down,Pamela J restored parity with a great game to peg the game back to 3-2,Marie then struggled to beat her opponent and the score now was 4-2,next up were the big guns and Joanne showed that on her day she can beat anybody 4-3 down,Elaine then got the bit between her teeth and dug deep to record a great win to make it all square with 2 to play, come on the Saints,Anne(the chip van)was next up but amid some confusion when wrong scores were shouted to her she narrowly lost to make 1 down with one to play,at the start of the year if you were waiting on the Kite to get you a result all would have been lost but with all the practise that the Kite has been doing over Xmas instead of celebrating she showed all the experience of a veteran to record a brilliant win,5-5 thanks to the Kite, well done girls keep up the good work......

MENS DARTS 11/12

12th Dec 2009

The Saints made the short journey down town to the Football Club in buoyant mood after last weeks result. The little General(Di Canio) was back from his sabbatical and was rearing to go.Up first was Mandy sporting a nice new blonde hairstyle(rumour has it knickers will follow next week)he didnt let any comments of his new look get in his way and he threw his best darts all season winning both legs in 19 darts.Billy The Barber is standing by with the peroxide to sort the rest of the team out before christmas....The Quiet Man is back to his best hitting 120 checkout in 18 darts 2-0 Saints,Di Canio also got in the act hitting 180 and recording a 17 darter 3-0 Saints great stuff,Fizzy was next up and even though he was once again paired with the Football Club best player he seen him off quite easily 4-0 and not a leg dropped...Silky Wilky was next and you can see the confidence oozing out of my fav player(apart from the Master of course)5-0 and still all legs intact, last time we were in this position The Tank took a dive and lost so you could see the determination in his face that he was not going to be beaten, neither he was and also won 2-0 a whitewash on the cards?????The Graduate was up in the penultimate game and he also showed what a bit of practice can do full house so far with just The Master to go...after a rocky start he then found his range showing everyone that the last game is just as important as the first and no Christmas cheer was shown by The Saints 16 legs to nil and 10 points in the bag...what a transformation in this team since winning the Legion cup...or was it because J LO was seen talking to his cousins....watch this space.Next game in the league is not till the New Year but there is a competition next week its the Blind Pairs just the game for Chris Who........

MENS DARTS 4/12

6th Dec 2009

The Web Master is leading a very sheltered life at the moment so he decided to partake in a couple of cold ones and take in Friday nights darts.Whitehead must have been empty last night as the local Gers team arrived at the fortress en masse.A shock away win in the first game saw Fizzy not firing on all cylinders and he was defeated 2-0,up next was my favourite player(after the master of course)silky wilkie, and he didnt let his large fan base down 2-0 to silky, score 1-1,this was the spur that the league contenders needed and The Tank,The Graduate and The Quiet Man all went about their business with great aplomb.Mandy tried hard in his game but was just pipped at the end 4-2 up with the Master on next the points were in the bag,5-2 and a couple of tons were well received by the home support and the Master dragged his team over the line again, with a good result but not his finest(perhaps he was worrying about his little apprentice who found himself in the committee room instead of the darts room)5-2 to the Saints with Chris Who to come,no problem here when he gifted a game to his opponent 5-3 win to the Saints, rumour has it that J LO was last seen talking to two family members that chucked arrows last year
by the names of PADDEEEEE and DANNEEEEEE....with that news I think its about time that the builders started to warm up upstairs instead of the basement.............. Next match 11th Dec we are away to the Football Club

Mens Darts 27/11

28th Nov 2009

Last night the Saints entertained Phoenix at the Fortress knowing that they needed a big score to get back into the title race.First up seen The Master leading the way and giving his opponent a lesson in darts his first leg was 19 darts with him also hitting 180 second leg seen him going better with a 15 dart 116 out shot(20,T20,D16)job done. The Quiet Man snatched a win after a dogged display 2-0 Saints, Wincanton must have bought a dart
board in the last few weeks as Fizzy just can't do anything wrong at the minute 3-0 Saints and not a leg dropped,The Graduate was up next and also showed he can compete with the best also winning 2-0 could a whitewash be on?Mandy showed that he wasn't going to be the one to let the side down and also won 2-0 what joy for the home side,The Tank brought his family out for the Xmas party and he showed he wasn't going to be a party pooper 2-0 tank 6-0 Saints.Could Chris Who make a magnificent 7 with a faultless display fraid not he lost first leg but then brought his A game to the oche finally winning 2-1 with a 19 dart with a 180 score, same as the Master,Silky then hoovered up the cream with a 2-0 win to leave the Saints winning 16legs and loosing just one, championship form with a full house of wins 8-0 without the apprentice.

Ladies Darts 24/11

26th Nov 2009

Once again the Webmaster found himself out and about on Tuesday so he took up a lofty position in the games room to watch the Saints play Wings, the home team should have had the first two games in the bag but once again double trouble seen Janette and Sandra taking a dive 2-0 down.Up stepped The Kite and it was plain for all to see that she plays better early(perhaps it's before the Breezers kick in)2-1 Saints.next up was Aussie Marian who followed the Kites lead 2-2.Elaine was next and narrowly lost to give onus back to the Wings, then came Super Sub Madge Wilson,it's not very often Madge gets to the oche but she showed what a team player she is.Stunning darts is all that can be said by Madge,This seemed to spur the Saints on and Postie Pamela easily dispatched her opponent, next was Hawkeye who once again rolled back the years to record another fine win 5-3 Saints. Joanne Mc Neill(nee Maxwell) showed what she can do under pressure in the penultimate game to leave the Saints in an unbeatable position 6-3 Saints, the last game was a bit flat and Marie Henry just couldn't get her nose in front and again narrowly lost.A good win for the Saints at the Fortress and they now go into the next match in buoyant mood......

MENS DARTS 13/11

14th Nov 2009

Its not very often that the Web Master takes credit for anything but a little chuckle came over him when his little spy sent a text with the darts result before midnight last night,The Saints buoyed by the league standings published during the week set off to the Legion to play in the first cup competition of the season knowing that with a full squad they were as good as if not better than most of their opponents. All the toys and prams were left at home and after the first game beating Ballylumford they started to gel together and looked like a team with a mission, next up was kd.nicholl who were easily dispatched 5-0,wins by The Quiet Man,Di Canio,Fizzy,Silky and The Master, the Saints were now in the semis,The Gers provided the opposition and must have rued the date Fri 13th as the Saints won 5-2 best for them was The Tank and of course The Master. The Final saw a rematch of an earlier league fixture against the Lumford when the Saints were beaten on home turf. This must have playing on the minds of The Tank and the Quiet Man who both lost,2-0 down,it took The Master and his little prodigy (Di Canio) to restore parity 2-2,The Graduate and Chris Who?then gave the advantage back to the Lumford and it looked like it was going to be another bridesmaid wedding for the Saints.Silky Wilkie had other ideas and this bhoy buzzed about the board leaving his opponent reeling on the ropes,Mandy turned up this week after his holiday at Browns Bay and he had that Steely look in his eyes that you knew he wasnt going to be beaten,4-4 with Fizzy to come,he must also have remembered The Web Masters stinging remarks last time these two met(his brother-in-law beat him)he reached heights with his darts only he can tell you where they came from.5-4 Saints and amid the euphoria J Lo received the trophy and was very gracious in his acceptance speech, back slapping time for a well deserved victory. The first trophy will hopefully sit with pride at the Fortress awaiting some more company come the end of the season...............

MENS DARTS 6/11

7th Nov 2009

The Saints match last night was away to the No1 club and they set off more in hope than anything else,as in other years we seem to get a little run going and then shoot ourselves in both feet, when are we going to learn that there are enough opponents wanting us to blow up without us pressing the self destruct button ourselves, everyone knows that darts are played every Friday night and players should be opting in to our panel instead of opting out.Silky Wilkie was first up last night and continued his rich form in the first leg but took his eye off the ball and duly lost 2-1.Next up was Di Canio but playing snooker, pool and darts every week took its toll and he also lost 2-0 down,Fizzy must think that the gods are against him as he always seems to play No1 or No2 opponents,3-0 down, next up was the veteran hockey player at the oche Young (snr)no bother here 4-0 down(before you could say penalty corner)it took the Master to restore a bit of pride and he showed the way with a 91 finish(t17,d20)and in the second leg blew his opponent away with an 18 darter finishing on 20,t20,d18 for a 116 checkout(swoon, swoon)The quiet man has been under pressure from his Managing Director at work but after a shaky start, showed his class and won 2-1,4-2 down with 2 to go,was their to be another rising Phoenix????The Tank began full of confidence but just couldn,t cut the mustard and the points went down the tubes, the graduate played last game and showed that he can compete with the best winning 2-0,final score 5-3 down...The story behind last nights game is if you dont turn up to play you cant blame ones that did turn up to play.........

LADIES DARTS 3/11

5th Nov 2009

The Ladies entertained a very good St Johns side and only for the old double trouble might have ended the night with full points instead of a share of the spoils, the match began well for the Saints with The Postwoman beating Babs(The Lifeguard)in 35 darts, next up was Sandra(the ticket seller)who recorded a fine win hitting 120 and winning in 30 darts,2-0 Saints, next to the oche was Joanne who will play a lot worse this season and win, 2-1 up,Elaine was next and threw that many darts at the board she needs to sharpen them before next week, but she did record a win 3-1,Matron then let St Johns back into the match before Marie restored the 2 game lead 4-2,Anne(chippy)Shaw then also got double trouble and duly lost to leave the lead just 1 game.Next up was Marian(squeaky floorboards)who just couldnt find the range and was beaten, all square with two matches to go,backs to the wall time and no better player than Maria who produced the goods to give the Saints the lead going into the last game,no pressure on the Kite.....even though its her first season in the top flight she showed glimpses of what she can do with an arrow(beware Leaky and Franny)again it was double trouble and when the Saints look back on this game it will be points lost not won that they will think about.......

LADIES DARTS 27/10

31st Oct 2009

The Ladies played their first game in the new dart area but felt that the oiche squeaked too much(some husbands and partners felt that perhaps more attention should be paid to the 4 poster squeaking more....)The Thatch were the visitors and they were quickly put on the back foot by some fancy footwork, first from Anne Shaw and then from Mrs Consistency(Hawkeye)Saints 2-0 up before the Kite had thrown her knickers at Tom Jones....Mother and daughter(Maxwell) then got in the act to increase the lead 4-0 the Grusome Twosome then lost (Maria and Elaine)to make the score 4-2 Saints The Johnston family then won to make the score 6-2 with the last two games going to the visitors for the Saints to record a 6-4 win to keep them in the top half of the table.Well done to the Ladies that won but also well done to the Ladies that beat a certain outspoken Male member everytime he played. The clue is he is to darts what he was to plumbing.......again nuff said.....

MENS DARTS 30/10

31st Oct 2009

Last night was the first time that the new dart area was used in the Fortress and by all accounts it was well received by all involved, indeed if we play like we did last night it will not be too long before this team gets a bit of silverware for their endeavours. It was the turn of the Rangers to christen the new dart area and they arrived with perhaps the strongest team that they could possibly field. With everyone able to watch the darts from behind the players, the atmosphere was electric,The Tank was first to the oche and he quickly found his range recording a 2-0 win and a 20 darter,1-0 Saints, next up we felt the Quiet Man would put us further in front but despite throwing fine darts and hitting a 180 along the way he was cruelly beaten 2-1 by D Ward 1-1,the Quiet Man felt that next up should have been S(The Mouth)Looney but then he remembered Simon doesnt do Darts, only Carlesberg. The Saints then put on an impressive display winning all the next 6 games to win 7-1,Silky Wilkies skills shone through winning 2-0 with an 18 darter,Fizzy returned to winning ways out scoring his opponent to win 2-0,The Master also recorded an 18 darter(no more than I expect from ma bhoy)Di Canio also seems to keep his best darts for any team that goes to watch football in Govan winning 2-1 to keep us ticking over,Mandy easily won his game with consistency, last but by no means least was the Graduate who lost the first but recovered to keep the momentum going 7-1 Saints a great result with the only blip was that some supporters dont know when enough is enough, nuff said.....

MENS DARTS 23/10

24th Oct 2009

The web master didnt realise the number of readers he has so he can only apologise about last weeks cup win and say that he only got the score on Sunday when Billy Joel accosted him with a full head of steam on demanding that a report was written forthwith....My little spy was out and about last night when The Saints travelled out of town to the Glynn to play The Gers, again this is not a happy hunting ground for The Saints and if a draw had have been offered at the start J Lo would have taken it quicker than I could say LAST TICKET.Fizzys good run had to end sometime and last night was when it was to be beaten 2-0 by R Wallace, next to the oche was the Graduate and he swears to his favourite Uncle that he should have won but for the Doubles, this was perhaps an omen on what was to come. The Quiet Man steadied the ship with super darts of 180 plus checkouts of 20 an 27 to leave his man reeling in his wake,2-1 down,Mandy was next up but just couldnt find the range 3-1 down, next was The Master, after going 1-0 up it looked all over for The Taxi Driver but between double trouble and Mandy needing an Abacus to count the score The Master nosedived to his second defeat of the season 4-1 down Saints in big trouble.Wilkie took the game by the scruff of the neck and beat one of the Glynns greats John McCourt to give the Saints a glimmer of hope...when real men are needed look no further than Di Canio putting Thursdays Pool result behind him and declaring he would not be beaten back to back by no Gers team, his determination saw him check out in 21 darts with a T20 T20 D15 what a star,4-3 down with the Tank to come, this turned out to be a Larne Council affair with the Tank having the bragging rights on Monday morning with darts that you only dream about.4-4 draw.Well done to The Saints grinding out a result when all looked lost, just think what could have been if Mandy could count..............

LADIES DARTS 20/10

24th Oct 2009

The Saints ladies made the short trip down town to the No 1 club hoping to emulate the result the Men got earlier in the season. Its never an easy place to get a result but the Saints concentrated on the darts and not the surroundings,Mary Evans and Sheila Shannon got the Saints off and running and Pamela the Post put all thoughts of a postal strike out of her mind and left her opponent wishing she was still on the picket line,an upset to the Saints was when Hawkeye was beaten for the first time this season 3-1 Saints,Hawkeyes mate was next up and Mauv The Kite was hoping that even at her age she is still able to play away.No problem here the darts flowed from her arm like hawkeyes guinness smooth and true.4-1 Saints with Matron up next, she also didnt disappoint and put the Saints into an unbeatable lead, they always say the last game is the hardest to win but Chippy Shaw stepped up and put the game beyond the No 1 club and left the Saints returning to the Fortress knowing that they were No 1 this week......

MENS DARTS 9/10

10th Oct 2009

The Fortress was the place to be last night when a vintage display of darts was produced to bring down the curtain at the now redundant oche position.Next home game should see The Saints throwing arrows in the newly furnished back bar.It was a 5th v 6th game against the Legion and some stunning arrows were thrown Fizzy got off to a slow start against the Taxi man losing the first game but then winning the next two to put Saints up 1-0,3 games on the bounce for young Fizzy(pity he lost to family earlier)next up was Billy Joel(Mandy)he took out his man 2-0 to stay in 2nd place to the Master in wins this season,The Master then came to the stage and produced a level of darts rarely seen by not only hitting 180 but also recording 18 and 14 dart finishes(NEXT)Di Canio felt he was hard done by last week so he gathered all the toys up and replaced them back in the pram and done the business also winning 2-0, Wilkie then found himself playing a legend(in his own mind) Rocky Jackson,no problem for the Bhoy 5-0 Saints(what price the whitewash)the Tank then got in the act also winning in spectacular form 6-0 Saints.Chris (im back)Mooney also clodded straight and true arrows to win 2-0,and finally The Quiet Man took up the rear to try and record his first home win of the season(no pressure)Perhaps it was because he had no date at the clock that he steadied himself and took the spoils 2-0. A super show by the Saints and it was also noted that everyone played their part by waiting till all games were concluded before they made their way to the various Shebeens in the town...

MENS DARTS 2/10

9th Oct 2009

The web Master apologises to his fans for this late entry about last weeks darts, his arm had cramp with all the letters he had to write to all the little children who threw tantrums last Sunday. Now children we shall begin...talking of toys and prams Di Canio had a bad week it must have something to do with his monthly cycle(not bike)rumour has it steam was still coming out of his ears when he returned to the Fortress after being soundly beaten by a Busy, his mood didnt improve when the Busy Bees lost 2-1(the same score as his darts game)on Sunday.Chris(back in the fold)Mooney recorded a fine win up the Hill and The Quiet Man seems to be back in the groove with another 2-0 win.Fizzy is repaying the faith that only J LO sees in him with another faultless display 3-1 Saints. Mandy and Wilkie both like the clean air that is on the hill and they done the business 5-1,next up was The Master(could the unthinkable happen back to back losses....no chance)he thundered in ton after ton to claim both games.6-1 Saints, next up was The Tank and he scored heavily at times, but his opponent alas had to much in his tank,6-2 Saints ,a good night all in all and we are still up there in the mix with the rest........

LADIES DARTS 6/10/09

9th Oct 2009

The Ladies darts returned this week to fortress St Comgalls,a large crowd gathered for the expected return of The Kite, alas when the draw was made not only was she on last but her match was against one of their opponents better players(you know the saying lifes a b---h)Maria gave me the results and she is either saving ink or she used to sit in the chair at Castlereagh.Very little info.Good job the Web Master had purchased a top priced ticket and he seen most of the matches,Hawkeye was on first and she continued her great form with a win albeit after a few loose darts were chucked at D1 before one fell in.Next up was Young Henry who hit some good scores and finished first time of asking,Snooper Toner and Matron Clarke recorded fine wins with Marian(don,t go to Oz)Maxwell also getting in the winners enclosure, final winner was Pamela(the post)Johnston who found her range better at the oche than when she,s on the post. Before the last game a groan resounded around the club when Leaky Kelly arrived like a twelfth of July bonfire (well lit)to cheer on the Kite, the pressure told on the Kite who then lost, rumour has it Leaky is now off the Christmas card list(not that he was ever on it).6-2 to the Saints, super darts..........
